So Blackpool help me out

Went to Blackpool yesterday for a couple of hours. I have a strong love/hate with Blackpool I do have to say. Having spent lots and lots (and I mean lots) of my life on holidays and day trips there I do like it, but when I get there I walk round growling at the scruffiness of it all and the idiots that are there, yet when I leave I don’t actually want to.

If I am honest, I did enjoy walking round yesterday, dropped £26 on a fruity on the North Pier, had some decent fish and chips and it was a good walk round in the sea air.

What I did notice most of all, is how it is being modernised. The sea front is all being dug up and spruced, which can only be a good thing, and the area rounds the Hounds Hill Shopping area has changed so much since I was last there with new shops and extensions to the centre as well as new pedestrian areas and street lighting. It is good to see and long may it continue.

Fingers crossed they do something with the Tower side of the seafront as this is still blighted with nasty chip and kebab huts, run down rock selling outlets and shops that still sell “Kiss me quick” hats in 2010!

Fingers crossed Blackpool FCs promotion will get this side of things improved as well as some of those back street guesthouses that need a few licks of paint and a spruce. Sadly, I feel the owners of these will do well out of football fans between Aug and May and instead of reinvesting the money in their property, will just bugger off to Spain for the winter.

And if that is the case, then Blackpool will just remain the same old, same old.
